The memorial to American composer, pianist, and jazz orchestra leader Duke Ellington (1899–1974) is located just beyond the northeast corner of the Park. Frederick Douglass Memorial 110th St & Frederick Douglass Blvd Frederick Douglass Circle, a memorial plaza just beyond the northwest corner of the Park, features a bronze sculpture of Frederick Douglass (1817–1895), an abolitionist leader as well as a famed orator, author, newspaper founder, and woman’s suffragist. www.nycgovparks.org


Hamilton Heights Historic District 142nd – 145th Sts, Amsterdam – St Nicholas Aves

The Hamilton Heights Historic District is a national historic district in Hamilton Heights. It consists of 192 contributing residential rowhouses, apartment buildings, and churches built between about 1886 and 1931.


Mount Morris Park Historic District 119th – 124th Sts, Lenox Ave – Mount Morris Park W

Mount Morris Park Historic District is a 16-block historic district in west central Harlem, Manhattan, New York City. It was designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1971.


Strivers’ Row 138th – 139th Sts btwn Adam Clayton Powell, Jr & Frederick Douglass Blvds

Both a national and a New York City historic district, and consists of row houses and associated buildings designed by three architectural firms and built in 1891–93 by developer David H. King Jr.


Swing Low: Harriett Tubman Memorial 121st St at Frederick Douglass Blvd & St Nicholas Ave

This larger-than-life bronze sculpture depicts abolitionist organizer and Underground Railroad leader Harriet Tubman (c. 1822-1913).
