On Sunday, October 2, 2016, 1:00 pm at Riverside Church in the City of New York, the awarding winning Maryland based organization, Piano For Youth Presents Speak to Me of Children Concert Fundraiser at The Riverside Church in New York City. The performance will feature some of the most prolific women in jazz of our time. Featured artists include, Amy K. Bormet. A prolific composer, an alum of Howard University, frequently combines improvisation with concert music. She has been commissioned to write for Wild Up’s Work concert for classical bassist/vocalist Maggie Hasspacher, the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and the Brad Linde Ensemble among others. Amy is an alumna of the Kennedy Center’s residency program for composer/performers, Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead, and the inaugural Mary Lou Williams Emerging Artist Workshop. As an advocate for women in music, Amy created the Washington Women in Jazz Festival in 2011 and continues to serve as executive director. Suzzanne Douglas, widely know as an award winning actress in,(Whitney, School of rock, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Tap, The Good Wife), Suzzanne’s vocal talents have taken her from Broadway opposite Sting in The Three Penny Opera to the concert halls of Russia with Jon Faddis in Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies. Recently, Douglas completed principal photography on the soon to be released film, Happy Yummy Chicken for which she wrote it’s title song. Rolling Stone said “Suzzanne Douglas is fabulous”.
