The #CoolForSchool #Supply500 initiative aims to help prepare our children appropriately for the new coming school year by supplying five hundred of Harlem’s children with proper school supplies and/or materials. #Supply500 will be preparing backpacks filled with essential school supplies to #Supply500 kids of Harlem. ImageNation has focused their Outdoor Film Festival for this year on STEM, its importance in education and how youth are accessing and using it to learn, create and grow. On August 21st, you can join their Kids Night Out screening of “A Wrinkle in Time” Directed by Ava DuVernay and their Black Girl Magic closing night film “Love Beats Rymes. Directed by  RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and staring recording artist Azealia Banks, Jill Scott, and Common will be showing on September 7th. During their showing of “A Wrinkle in Time” their tech village will be present. The idea of a Tech Village is an extension of the Wakanda Tech Village for the summer screening of “Black Panther” back in June. Wakanda being an advanced technological society and placing it in Harlem. Featured exhibitors included the Harlem Knights Robotics Team, LatinoTech, A-Frame – NYC & Immersive NYC (both are A-Frame classroom style meet-up groups that specialize in teaching A-Frame) and VR World NYC. In addition to the tech village, they will also have face-painting, a back to school backpack giveaway by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and more.

Inspired by compelling personal recollections from the Oral History Project at the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, Separate and Equal explores the emotional violence of segregation through the playing of a forbidden basketball game between black and white teens in the pressure cooker of 1950’s Jim Crow Alabama. Told through a dynamic hybrid of basketball and modern dance and performed to an original jazz soundtrack composed specifically for this production, Separate and Equal follows those on the very cusp of adulthood, not yet consumed by the prejudices of their parents, as they struggle to break free from the repetitious cycle of racism. This October, join Jazz at Lincoln Center for their fourth annual Thelonious Monk Festival. Throughout three venues, you’ll hear diverse interpretations of music by this genius composer and pianist’s compositions performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Russell Hall, Barry Harris, Mike LeDonne, and more.
